Discover Saba To Go

If you’ve ever found yourself wandering around Dundrum and craving bold Southeast Asian flavors without the formality of a long sit-down meal, Saba To Go at 6 Arbourfield Terrace, Dundrum Road, Windy Arbour, Dublin 14, D14 KV22, Ireland is exactly where you want to be. I’ve stopped by more times than I can count-usually after work, sometimes before a weekend hike in the Dublin Mountains-and the experience has been consistently satisfying.

The concept is simple: vibrant Thai and Vietnamese street food, prepared fresh, packed quickly, and served with the same care you’d expect from a full-service restaurant. What stands out immediately is how efficient the process feels. Orders move briskly from the open kitchen to the counter, yet nothing tastes rushed. On one visit, I watched the chefs toss a Pad Thai over high heat, layering tamarind, fish sauce, fresh lime, and crushed peanuts in a matter of minutes. That balance of sweet, sour, and savory is exactly what Thai cuisine is known for, and according to research highlighted by the World Health Organization, diets rich in herbs, spices, and fresh vegetables-like those used in Southeast Asian cooking-can support overall health and reduce reliance on heavy processed ingredients.

The menu is compact but diverse. You’ll find fragrant curries, rice bowls, noodle dishes, and fresh salads. The Vietnamese summer rolls are a personal favorite-light, herb-packed, and paired with a punchy dipping sauce. Their Massaman curry, slow-cooked with tender meat and warming spices, delivers that deep comfort-food feeling without being overly heavy. For vegetarians and vegans, the options are more than an afterthought. Tofu-based stir-fries and plant-forward curries are thoughtfully seasoned, not just substitutes but fully developed dishes.

Food safety and ingredient quality matter to me, especially when it comes to takeaway spots. Ireland’s Food Safety Authority (FSAI) maintains strict hygiene standards for food businesses, and establishments in Dublin are routinely inspected. While I can’t speak for internal operations, the open kitchen layout and visible freshness of ingredients inspire confidence. Everything from crisp vegetables to aromatic herbs looks vibrant and carefully stored.

Another detail worth mentioning is portion size. You genuinely get value for money. I’ve shared a large noodle box with a friend, and we both left satisfied. At a time when many takeaway spots are shrinking portions, that consistency builds trust. Online reviews across platforms regularly mention reliability-quick service, friendly staff, and flavorful dishes that travel well. I’ve brought their green curry to a small family gathering, and even after a 20-minute drive, the flavors held up beautifully.

From a broader culinary perspective, Saba’s approach reflects authentic Southeast Asian cooking techniques. Stir-frying over high heat, balancing the five fundamental tastes, and using fresh herbs like coriander and Thai basil are methods widely discussed by culinary experts and institutions such as Le Cordon Bleu when teaching Asian cuisine fundamentals. You can taste that understanding in the final product. The sauces don’t overwhelm; instead, they complement the main ingredients.

Location-wise, being in Windy Arbour near Dundrum makes it incredibly accessible. Whether you’re commuting, heading to nearby offices, or living in Dublin 14, it’s a practical choice for lunch or dinner. Parking can be tight during peak hours, so I usually order ahead and pick up promptly. That small planning step makes the experience seamless.

If there’s one limitation, it’s seating-this is primarily a takeaway diner rather than a traditional restaurant. So, if you’re looking for an extended sit-down evening with table service, you might prefer their full restaurant counterpart. Still, for quick, high-quality Asian takeaway, it hits the mark consistently.

The flavors are bold without being overpowering, the service is efficient yet friendly, and the menu caters to a range of dietary preferences. Every visit reinforces why this spot has built such a loyal following in Dublin.

  • Extremely tasty food and great value for money. I had the spice bag and it was one of the best spice bags I’ve had! Staff, especially Patrick and Ed, were very friendly, pleasant and extremely conscientious with regards to food allergies. I will definitely be returning again!

  • It's probably one of our favourite places to go for takeaway food at the moment. The food is very good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Online ordering has been slightly problematic on occasion through the App. But otherwise very good.

  • We had Saba cater a confirmation party for us. The food was delicious (the crispy chilli chicken) and the service was seamless. Alan was so unobtrusive setting up the food. The whole process removed a lot stress for us. Everyone was raving about the food.
